Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Service Manager, the Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our repair facility, supervising technicians, ensuring quality workmanship, maintaining productivity, and delivering exceptional customer service.

This is a hands-on leadership position. While the primary responsibility is supervising shop operations, the successful candidate will also assist with mechanical repairs, troubleshooting and shop activities when required.

 

Experience with tank trailers, tanker trucks, commercial trailers or heavy-duty transportation equipment is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of mechanics, welders and service technicians.
  • Plan, prioritize and assign daily repair work.
  • Ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently and on schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance and assist technicians with complex repairs.
  • Perform hands-on mechanical work as required.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical issues.
  • Schedule repairs while minimizing customer downtime.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized shop.
  • Monitor productivity and labour efficiency.
  • Order parts and coordinate with the Parts Department.
  • Communicate repair updates and estimates to customers.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and industry regulations.
  • Train, mentor and coach technicians.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the shop.

Preferred Experience

Ideal candidates will have experience servicing and repairing:

  • Petroleum tank trailers
  • Chemical tank trailers
  • Dry bulk trailers
  • Pneumatic trailers
  • Vacuum trailers
  • Highway commercial trailers
  • Tractor-trailers
  • Heavy-duty transportation equipment

Experience with any of the following is considered an asset:

  • Tank trailer inspections
  • Suspension systems
  • Brake systems (air brakes)
  • ABS systems
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Aluminum trailer repairs
  • Tank modifications
  • Trailer plumbing and valves
  • Pressure testing
  • CSA B620 cargo tank inspections
  • Tank certifications
  • Preventative maintenance programs

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of heavy-duty truck or trailer repair experience.
  • 1+ years previous supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Licensed 310J or 310T Truck & Coach Technician is required.
  • Mechanically inclined with strong diagnostic abilities.
  • Experience managing workflow in a busy repair environment.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to read repair manuals, work orders and technical drawings.
  • Valid G Driver's Licence (DZ or AZ licence considered an asset).
